My work finds a home in all venues of illustration -editorial, book, advertising, corporate, and internet. I'm happiest using dip pens on fine watercolor paper which I then paint conventionally or electronically in Photoshop.
I've been drawing and painting since I could hold a pencil. It was just something that I had to do. Shortly after I received my BFA in Painting at Mass Art, I continued taking Illustration courses at RISD. Later, I held a number of illustration/design positions in various studios around and in Boston. When I made the decision to go freelance, I never looked back. That was over twenty years ago.
Using a venerable dip pen, I look for that spot between cartoon and representational, not too stylized, trendy or gimmicky but alive, sophisticated and fresh. Iím always aware of the economy and the flair of the line, and try to spotlight that. After inking, things really come alive with the application of watercolor, whether traditional brush or electronic stylus-on-tablet.
I enjoy employing the aerial viewpoint as well and have been called to work in that mode in varying degrees on many occasions. I have done fun and funky aerial views of Boston for Hilton Hotels, A college campus fair, the rocky coast of
Bermuda for the Wyndham Bermuda Resort, the Hills of Southern Connecticut for Quinnipiac University, Western North Carolina, and Hollywood California to name a few. One thing I can say after 30 years, at the completion of every project, the client is al-ways quite pleased, as am I
I've been living and working out of my home studio in Hopkinton, Mass., the starting point of the venerable Boston Marathon. A great way to go if I do say so myself!
Lastly, I just want to say that I feel the colors of some of the non-computer-painted pieces shown here are not as bright as the original or printed work. Please contact me and I'll be glad to send nice big jpeg images of anything. Thanks.
